The Texas Southern University National Alumni Association (TSUNAA) Washington, DC Metro Area Chapter continues its commitment to education, cultural preservation, and community engagement through a meaningful collaboration with the 100 Black Christian Men of Prince George’s County, Maryland.
On March 5, 2026, chapter representatives Robert Reeder, Roy Westmore, and Pamela Ansley participated in a Black History Month initiative centered on expanding access to HBCU-centered educational resources for local students.
Investing in Knowledge and Legacy
As part of The HBCU Project, a total of 150 books titled “HBCUs: The Living Legacies” by Samuel Johnson were formally presented and delivered to the Bonnie Johns Educational Media Center. These books will be distributed throughout Prince George’s County Public School libraries, ensuring that students have direct access to the rich history and contributions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The book highlights the development and impact of 17 of the nation’s 107 HBCUs, offering students a deeper understanding of the academic excellence, cultural significance, and enduring legacy of these institutions.
A Collective Community Effort
This initiative brought together a powerful coalition of religious, professional, and educational organizations, all united by a shared mission: to ensure that future generations remain connected to Black history, culture, and achievement.
At a time when there are growing concerns about the erosion and exclusion of Black historical narratives, this effort stands as a proactive investment in education and cultural awareness. The participating organizations emphasized the importance of equipping students with knowledge that affirms identity, inspires pride, and broadens opportunity.
Amplifying the Impact
The event garnered media attention from:
- The Informer Newspaper
- Prince George’s Community Television
- YouTube digital coverage
This visibility helps extend the reach of the initiative and underscores the importance of community-driven educational advocacy.
Continuing the Mission
The TSUNAA DC Metro Chapter remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting educational advancement, strengthening community partnerships, and uplifting the legacy of HBCUs—especially as Texas Southern University approaches its 100th Anniversary in 2027.
Through initiatives like this, the chapter not only honors the past but actively invests in the future.
