TSUNAA Washington, DC Metro Chapter Attends Exclusive Sneak Peek of HBCU Exhibition

National Museum of African American History and Culture | January 16, 2026

The Texas Southern University National Alumni Association (TSUNAA) Washington, DC Metro Chapter proudly attended an exclusive sneak peek of the powerful new exhibition, “At the Vanguard: Making and Saving History at HBCUs,” held at the National Museum of African American History and Culture on Friday, January 16, 2026.

This highly anticipated traveling exhibition highlights groundbreaking collections from museums and archives at five distinguished Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): Clark Atlanta University, Florida A&M University, Jackson State University, Texas Southern University, and Tuskegee University. Bringing lesser-known stories to the National Mall, the exhibit honors the institutions that have preserved African American history while shaping generations of leaders, scholars, and changemakers.

Preserving History, Shaping the Future

“At the Vanguard” explores the essential role HBCUs have played in documenting cultural movements and advancing social change. Through archival collections, artifacts, photography, and immersive storytelling, visitors experience the richness of student activism, campus traditions, academic excellence, and African American cultural expression.

A Meaningful Moment Ahead of TSU’s Centennial

As Texas Southern University prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2027, the exhibition offers a timely opportunity to highlight the university’s achievements, resilience, and creativity throughout American history.

“As we approach our centennial, this exhibit allows the world to witness the legacy, excellence, and cultural influence of Texas Southern University.”

The exhibit underscores how HBCUs continue to serve as centers of innovation, advocacy, and cultural preservation — roles that remain just as vital today as they were at their founding.
